Analog Devices has a longstanding commitment to open-source software as a foundation for innovation, collaboration, and long-term customer value, reflected in a broad and growing portfolio of our public repositories on GitHub. For widely adopted platforms such as Linux, contributing code upstream helps ensure shared maintenance, broad validation, and resilient ecosystems that benefit the entire industry.
As opensource communities grow, so does the challenge of sustaining high-quality contributions at scale. Code review remains central to maintaining trust and technical rigor, but reviewer capacity does not increase as quickly as contribution volume. Without the right tooling, review cycles can slow, placing additional strain on both contributors and maintainers.
To help address this challenge, Analog Devices’ Linux team has developed a PR Agent, an AI assisted pull request reviewer designed to support existing opensource workflows while preserving human accountability and allowing to use models from multiple vendors, in the cloud, or self-hosted.

The PR Agent is not a standalone AI reviewer. It is built around the same engineering tools already used in Linux development workflows, including build checks, static analysis, style validation, and CI test results. Operating in a controlled, read-only environment. The agent assesses these annotations by interactively compiling the kernel and validating the issues and the fixes generated. Then it provides clear, contextual feedback directly on pull requests.
This approach ensures that review feedback remains grounded in concrete engineering evidence rather than abstract suggestions, helping teams surface issues earlier and more consistently.
By identifying common issues sooner in the development cycle, the PR Agent helps contributors deliver upstream ready code with fewer review iterations. At the same time, it reduces the time maintainers spend on repetitive checks, allowing them to focus on architectural decisions, long-term maintainability, and community stewardship.
The tool does not approve or merge code. Final decisions remain firmly with Analog Devices experienced team of reviewers. Instead, the PR Agent provides scale and consistency, enabling parallel review of multiple pull requests without compromising rigor.
The PR Agent reflects Analog Devices’ broader investment in open‑source sustainability. By pairing AI capabilities with established engineering tools and clear guardrails, the approach strengthens, not bypasses the practices that open‑source communities rely on.

While the initial focus is on Linux contributions, the same principles can extend to other areas of software development over time, including documentation and testing. The goal is not speed for its own sake, but a more durable, scalable model for contributing to the open‑source ecosystems that customers depend on.
